Teddy Namagembe, Director Compassion Care FoundationBorn and raised in a small, remote village several miles from Mpigi, Uganda, my mother sacrificed her life and work to see that I, and my sisters, were able to get basic education. My father died at a young age, while I was very young, making our life more difficult.

As a child I had to carry water a distance of 2 1/2 miles each direction for bathing, cooking and drinking. We also had to tend the garden that provided food for us year around. After harvest, we dried as much as we could and stored for the months when nothing grows. This is the life my mother still lives, fetching water, tending a garden, but she is a very happy woman with a kind and caring soul, who shares the little she has with those who have less.

I got my first shoes at age 11, and they were my pride and joy. A short time after getting my shoes, I had the opportunity to go on a motor bike to a village more remote then where I grew up. I saw people without clothing, with only one small meal a day, with no chance for education or a way out of their situation. I arrived home without my new shoes, without my clothing, too, as I gave them to some of the people I met that day.

Since then my passion has been to find a way to provide free education to these people, as well as basic clothing (used or second hand). This with the hope that the future would be brighter for the children of these families and provide opportunities for jobs so they can rise above their poverty situation that includes much sickness and poor health.

With support from a best friend, my mother and family, I have been fortunate in acquiring an education in accounting. And also to have been able to help my own family to have a better home other then a thatch roof hut that leaked with each rain, and to be more self sufficient.

Jim Haverlock and I met back in year 2003 and we became best friends immediately. Together we have discussed my dream for a free school in a remote area of Uganda, and his dream of finding a way to help people in Uganda and elsewhere, and to attempt to dissolve the unequal issues of - financial means, health care, education and clean and safe water, and to help in some small way the thousands of orphan children.

Being a part of Compassion Care Foundation is the culmination of a lifelong dream of providing a way to give hope and fulfillment of individual dreams, through education for all, not just the privileged few.
