UGANDA FREE SCHOOL PROJECT
You can help educate a Child who otherwise, has no means
This will be a very simple structure that will be used as a learning center in this remote area of Uganda. It will not be fancy, but will provide a means for children to begin learning English, the main language in Uganda. Without knowledge of the english language, there will be no opportunity for employment.
Other subjects will be basic - reading, writing, arithmetic - the necessary tools to begin their future
A very kind and generous Ugandan woman has donated 5 hectares of land in this remote area, to another woman who wants to see this free school a reality. She has therefore granted permission for a building to be placed on this land. There is a water well close by that will provide for drinking and cooking one small meal per school day.
The proposed structure will start as a typical "pole barn" with screened walls and entrance doors, with a metal roof, much like rural schools in Malaysia. To begin with, the floor will be "dirt" and eventually we hope to pour concrete to make it less dusty.
Desks, to begin with, will be tables and chairs, with a black board and small table for the teacher to use.
The meal will be prepared using traditional cooking methods - an open barbeque with charcoal.
The land is large enough to have a garden that can supply the vegetables for the once a day meal.
Much of the building of this structure will be accomplished by the people of these villages, as well as tending the garden.
A teacher has been secured with her pay being $100 per month. She will live with one of the families in the village.
What is needed?
- School supplies - books, writing pads, pens, pencils, crayons, paper
- Teaching supplies: Instruction Manuals for each subject, blackboard, easel, desk, chair
- Building Materials: Poles, foundation, roofing, screen for walls, door frames, screen doors
- Kitchen: Cooking pots and pans, utensils, dishes, silverware, dish soaps etc.
- Garden: Tools, implements for digging, weeding, watering (by hand), drying (to save for dry season), seeds
