Salima is the 5th child in a family of 7 children. She is also the 4th child to be born deaf, with a severe level of deafness.
The father abondoned the family using the excuse that his wife was the fault of these bad children. He took another wife and has not bothered to check on his children in all this time.
Salima is happy. She likes playing with others and is very social. She shows much interest in her studies. She is well behaved and interacts freely with both the deaf and hearing pupils.
Mudondo Zabinah, the mother to six deaf children and one with hearing, shows a lot of parental love to her children. This is possible because she knows she is a single parent, and a poor peasant farmer. She can only afford to come and visit her children at Gabba Centre, or the learning school, bringing them g-nuts and maize. Mudondo lives at Kibibi-Jinja.
