She is the 2nd born out of 7 children, of whom 6 are deaf. Zabina joined htis school shortly after her other deaf sisters and brothers had joined. In her first days at school, Zabina looked so lonely, withdrawn and rocking. She showed signs of one who was traumatized, neglected and psychologically tortured. She was so unhappy, revealed signs of one who is not loved, handicapped to mention but a few. It as learned from her that the rout cause of it all was - the father, who bore a negative attitude towards his deaf children and later abandoned hte whole family and go married to another woman. That apart, the community Zabina lived in also seemed a headache to her. No single person could give a helping hand and the community reached an extent of not visiting hte family for fear that the same calamity may befall them. Some had the false belief that deafness was contagious and thought that any contact with the family will lead them to be affected. Lucky enough, Zabina's social behaviour is improving positively. She has made friends with some her schoolmates and can now interact freely with them. She is very caring to her young sisters and brothers and has shown much interest in learning. The father abondoned the family using the excuse that his wife was the fault of these bad children. He took another wife and has not bothered to check on his children in all this time. Mudondo Zabinah, the mother to six deaf children and one with hearing, shows a lot of parental love to her children. This is possible because she knows she is a single parent, and a poor peasant farmer. She can only afford to come and visit her children at Gabba Centre, or the learning school, bringing them g-nuts and maize. Mudondo lives at Kibibi-Jinja.
